Unannounced Action-Adventure Project

Made in Unreal Engine 5

This Unannounced Project was a third-person action-packed, couch co-op adventure, mashup between one of the largest animation studios & one of the largest construction toy manufacturers in the world. Unfortunately, I can't go into further detail due to NDA. However, I was on this project from conception all the way through to the end of the first-playable demo, which took roughly 1 year. During this time, we pushed the demo quite far, so by the time we finished, it was closer to a vertical slice in terms of content and quality. Some of the main things I did within this project were:
 

  • I owned the design and implementation for the majority of the construction mechanics, some of which involved working with the code team to integrate with existing systems. 

  • Created level objects & mechanics such as: Pickups, Environmental Hazards, Puzzles & Equipment.

  • Worked with a small team to design and implement a larger construction mode made up of several sequences.

  • Made use of event dispatchers and receivers to relieve workloads from myself and my team when it came to other teams requiring the same mechanics in other areas.

  • Worked with geometry collections to help create more realistic breakable objects.

  • Used in-house software for pre-committing changes and carried out buddy checks on other colleagues' submissions.

  • Debugged ex-colleagues' blueprints and reworked them to fit the latest requirements.

  • Aided Level Design in implementing puzzle mechanics to support motifing.

  • Aided the audio team in implementing audio into the mechanics/sequences.

  • Created Gyms to test and perfect the mechanics/prototypes.

  • Created GDD's for key construction sequences.

  • Researched & documented reference titles within Confluence.

  • Helped with playtests and compiling/editing video footage for milestones.

  • Kept Confluence, Miro and Jira up to date.
